January 30, 2017

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to SNL alumni Kevin Costello & Kyle Mooney's "Brigsby Bear" at Sundance. The off-beat comedy about a young man who sets out to make a movie based on a children's TV show that only he has seen stars Claire Danes, Mark Hamill, and Greg Kinnear alongside Mooney. Variety's Geoff Berkshire says about the film “the eccentric, heartfelt curio is sure to attract a cult following.”

Sony Pictures Classics beat out some serious contenders for the film, including Orchard and Netflix, reportedly paying $5 million in the end for the rights. Sony Pictures Classics is planning a summer release for the film.
