Independent Film Vet David Dinerstein Launches Aviron Pictures
May 16, 2017
David Dinerstein, formerly of Fox Searchlight and Paramount Classics, is building a diverse slate of films for his new distribution venture, Aviron Pictures. Throughout his career, Dinerstein has worked to distribute some of independent film's most successful and well-known titles, collecting 15 Academy Awards along the way. Most recently, he served as executive producer for critically acclaimed docs Cries from Syria and Winter On Fire.
Aviron Pictures is heading to Cannes this week to seek out films for its slate, which already includes the Halle Berry thriller Kidnap, and an Alec Baldwin-Salma Hayek comedy, Drunk Parents. Those are both marked for fall 2017 release, with a reboot of 2008 horror film The Strangers to follow in 2018.
Of Aviron's mission, Dinerstein says "We are looking for the highest quality product and will only make a move if we are true believers in a film’s commercial potential theatrically and through all ancillary revenue opportunities. In that respect, our model is driven by creative execution and the potential for commercial excellence."
