Amazon Studios Stuns at CinemaCon with 'Suspiria' Preview

May 4, 2018

With head of movie marketing and distribution, Bob Berney, warning "it's not for the faint of heart," attendees of the Amazon Studios presentation at this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas were treated to a short preview from Luca Guadagnino's upcoming "re-imagining" of the Dario Argento horror classic Suspiria. The scene was one that audience is not likely to forget, with an intense and supernatural dance sequence that ends in over-the-top gore grabbing headlines in the entertainment press.

A sharp left turn from the sun-dappled romance of his last film, Call Me By Your Name, Guadagnino calls his version of Suspiria an "homage" to the original rather than a straight redo. Both versions take place at highly regimented dance academies in Germany, and, based on this preview, neither film holds back when it comes to bloody effects. Amazon plans to release Suspiria in theaters this fall. For more audience reactions to the terrifying preview, go to IndieWire.
