April 12, 2021

This year's Directors Guild Awards took place virtually on Saturday, with Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Classics titles taking home some key prizes.

Darius Marder won the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director, for his work on Amazon's Sound of Metal. Marder celebrated the win by thanking the deaf community in Boston where he filmed the movie, and "rais[ing] a plastic hotel cup" to his fellow nominees on the ceremony's live stream.

Directors of Sony Classics' The Truffle Hunters, Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw, were awarded Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary. Dweck's acceptance speech included a special shoutout to the film's many truffle hunting dogs.
