2023 Oscar Shortlists Reveal Amazon Studios and Sony Classics As Contenders

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released its shortlists of semi-finalist in ten different categories, chosen by a select group of voters. Next up: Oscars voters in these categories will finalize the list of contenders for nominations, which will be announced on January 24th.
In the shortlists of these specialty categories, Amazon Studios has two films: Argentina, 1985 for International Feature Film as Argentina's entry; Thirteen Lives for Visual Effects. Sony Pictures Classics also has two films on the shortlists: Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, a Journey, a Song for Documentary Feature; and Return To Seoul for International Feature Film as Cambodia's entry.
Other categories with shortlists announced include Documentary Short Subject, Short Film (Live-Action and Animated), Original Song, Original Score, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Sound. To see all the films included, keep reading at IndieWire.
